A British holidaymaker flew home from Portugal to Liverpool on his brother's passport this weekend, sparking concerns over airport security.

Steve Wilson, 40, returned early from a golfing holiday in Lisbon and accidentally took his brother's passport on Saturday, reports the Daily Mail.

He only realised his mistake when he got home to Crosby. He had managed to pass through four security points even though the name on the passport was not the same as the one on his boarding card.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, his wife has expressed concerns over airport security checks in light of the incident.

She said: "In light of recent events in Paris and Belgium, I assumed airport security was a top priority within Europe. Obviously not.

"The names were different. Surely that should have raised some alarm bells?"

She added: "I explained that I will be taking this matter further and going public with regard to the lack of security and diligence currently operating in European airports.

"It's awful. It's not just the fact his name is on the boarding card and it's different to the one on the passport. He doesn't even look like his brother!"

Steve's brother Carl has been issued with emergency travel documents and will have to cancel his passport and get a new one.

A Border Force spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo that they do not comment on individual cases.
