World's most scenic airport approaches 2016

Malta Airport has received the title of world's most scenic airport approach in an air travel survey.

The European island's airport was praised for its view of the walled city of Valletta, the Mediterranean Sea and sister islands Gozo and Comino.

PrivateFly, a booking platform for private jet charters, asked thousands of travellers to vote for their favourite landing spot for 2016 in its annual poll.

One voter said: "I love this airport approach due to the amazing scenery one may see. On approach, you can see not only Malta, but its sister islands (Gozo and Comino) too. Add the sunset to that scenario and the result is just magic."

The Cote d'Azur's Nice Airport was named the second most scenic approach, followed by Queenstown Airport in New Zealand, the UK's Barra Airport and Saba Airport in the Caribbean.

London City Airport claimed 10th spot, with travellers saying: "Coming in over the lights of London, following the Thames until you touch down on a small strip near the O2 and Canary Wharf is brilliant. It's a great little airport, so easy to use and in a fantastic location."

A judge from the expert panel added: "No other London airport can give better views of the city, with the O2, Canary Wharf, the Gherkin, and more waiting to greet you on arrival."

PrivateFly's survey included 115 airports around the world, including airports from a shortlist chosen by the expert judging panel.
