Pret A Manger savours record sales of £676m

Updated

Sandwich chain Pret A Manger saw sales rise 13.9% to hit a record £676.2 million in 2015, while operating profit grew 14.5% to £84.3 million.

The company also said it plans to open a "vegetarian-only" pop-up in London in June after sales of non-meat products recorded double-digit growth last year.

The US was Pret's fastest growing market, where like-for-like sales grew 13.8%.

Pret chief executive Clive Schlee said: "These results represent another year of record sales for Pret. The highlights were a strong performance in the US - our newly opened Penn Station shop has the highest sales per square foot of any Pret in the world."

The company opened 36 new shops globally in 2015 and created 763 jobs.

In total, the firm employs 9,860.

Pret also revealed that avocado was the fastest-growing ingredient in popularity, with customers gobbling up five million in total over the year. Coffee sales remained strong, with Pret selling 1.5 million cups a week globally.

Pret is owned by Bridgepoint and last year the private equity firm said it was not considering either selling or listing the sandwich chain on the stock market.
