Public urged to send selfies to boost UK's Eurovision chances

Pop duo Joe and Jake are inviting viewers to be part of the staging for their Eurovision Song Contest performance in Sweden via selfies.

Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft, who are representing the United Kingdom with their track You're Not Alone, made the announcement on The Graham Norton Show on Friday.

They launched the plan with a selfie of themselves and host Norton alongside fellow guests Hugh Grant, Meryl Streep and Line Of Duty's Keeley Hawes.

Woolford said: "Your picture could be used in our stage performance and seen in front of an audience of 200 million people on the night."

He added: "We'd love people to send in selfies with their friends, family, anyone!"

A BBC spokesman said: "If successful, a picture just might be displayed during Joe and Jake's performance in the Globe Stadium in Stockholm."

The spokesman advised participants to ensure everyone in the photo can be clearly seen.

He also said, if using a phone, hold it horizontally as only landscape pictures will be considered.

Participants should email selfies to eurovision@bbc.co.uk ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest which will be broadcast on BBC One on May 14.

Joe and Jake have been busy promoting the UK's entry song internationally.

They have just returned from Tel Aviv.

Just before they flew to Israel, the pop stars performed You're Not Alone at Eurovision In Concert 2016 in the Netherlands.

It was the first time the duo, who were once rivals on the BBC's incarnation of The Voice UK, had given a rendition of the song on an international stage.
