2,600 convicted of tax evasion since 2010
More than 2,600 tax evaders have been convicted in Britain since 2010, the Attorney General has revealed.
But Jeremy Wright said he could not distinguish how many were prosecuted for offshore tax evasion.
His revelation came after the Panama Papers data leak heaped pressure on David Cameron over his investment in an offshore trust and led the Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn and George Osborne to publish their tax returns.
During law officers' questions, Mr Wright said: "All tax evasion prosecutions are conducted under domestic tax law legislation and no distinction is made in central records between offshore tax evasion cases and other tax prosecutions.
"I can tell you the total number of convictions since 2010 for tax offences is 2,647."
The Government has allocated £10 million for a new cross-agency taskforce to investigate the leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca and prosecute anyone found guilty of wrongdoing.
