It was seven years in the making, but this has every claim to be the best joke ever made on Twitter.

Both posts have been retweeted 35,000 times - and you have to sit back and admire this guy's patience and delivery. They were his first and second posts on the social networking site.

Twitter has certainly enjoyed the brevity of his wit...

You have to question whether it was the tweeter's intention to make the gag when he posted the first tweet, but we're more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And like all good entertainers, it looks like he's leaving everyone waiting for more.
