Broncos punish toothless Dragons

NRL leaders Brisbane Broncos capitalised on another toothless display from the out-of-sorts St. George Illawarra Dragons to secure a 26-0 victory at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday.

The Dragons were hammered 36-0 by champions North Queensland Cowboys last Saturday and an error-strewn display ensured they fired a blank once again five days later, leaving Paul McGregor's men with only 40 points from their first six games.

Wayne Bennett's Broncos side had no such trouble as Corey Oates and Alex Glenn scored first-half tries, with Anthony Milford and Jordan Kahu touching down late on to put them two points clear of Melbourne Storm at the summit.

Oates had the all too easy task of crossing on the left just four minutes in following a Milford pass that cut the Dragons open and Corey Parker's penalty increased the hosts' lead after Jack De Belin had a try ruled out at the other end.

Glenn pounced on a Ben Hunt grubber kick to score the Broncos' second try on the half-hour mark, with Parker converting to make it 12-0 at half-time.

Peter Mata'utia had a chance to get the Dragons on the board, but spilled the ball diving for the line and Milford showed great agility add a third try, with Kahu adding insult to injury in the corner after great work from Hunt.
