Seeds fall in first round in Marrakech


Seeds Teymuraz Gabashvili and Albert Ramos-Vinolas tumbled out of the first round of the Grand Prix Hassan II on a rain-interrupted Tuesday in Marrakech.

Fifth seed and world number 51 Gabashvili was beaten 6-3 6-4 by 2015 runner-up Daniel Gimeno-Traver, ranked 51 places below him, in just 82 minutes.

Ramos-Vinolas, seeded sixth, was beaten 7-5 6-3 by Paul-Henri Mathieu, the winner of the 2007 edition of the competition.

Eighth seed Jiri Vesely had to save five break points in order to see off Inigo Cervantes 6-1 6-3, while Denis Istomin saw off qualifier Lorenzo Giustino 7-6 (7-1) 6-4.

Nicolas Almagro overcame Radu Albot 6-4 6-3 to set up a second-round meeting with compatriot and number one seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Simone Bolelli beat Taro Daniel 7-5 6-4 and Thiemo De Bakker dispatched of wildcard and home hope Amine Ahouda 7-5 7-6 (7-2).
