Brexit group 'employs migrant workers in call centre'

One of the groups campaigning for Britain to leave the European Union has reportedly employed EU migrants to staff its call centre.

Insurance millionaire Arron Banks co-founded Leave.EU and is overseeing a call centre from where workers sign up supporters and donors.

Slovakian Rudolph Svat, 36, from Kosice, is one of four EU migrants working at the centre, according to the Guardian whose reporter met him on a visit to the site.

The Leave.EU lists the claim that EU migrants can "often deprive British citizens of jobs in the low-skilled end of the labour market" as a reason to vote for Brexit.

Mr Banks, who is thought not to have known that Mr Svat is Slovakian, tweeted on Sunday: "I'm happy to employ anyone in the UK. Legally ...he's terrific . Doesn't change basic economics."

He was accused of hypocrisy by the Remain campaign.

Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock, who is part of Britain Strong in Europe, said: "For Arron Banks to run a campaign based on division and demonisation while employing EU citizens in his cal4l centre, is the height of hypocrisy."

Mr Svat said he was pro-Brexit having learnt about the cost of membership.

Speaking to the Guardian about Brexit, he said: "There will be bigger controls and borders but that's not a bad thing.

"I see people from my own country who come here and are not working and I think it is not correct."
