Six people injured after sheep trailer ends up on top of car

Updated

Paramedics said it was "astonishing" no-one was killed when a trailer carrying about 30 sheep ended up on top of a car following a crash.

Emergency services were called to the A49 at Callow, Herefordshire, and found a silver BMW with a trailer on top of it.

The Land Rover Defender which had been pulling the trailer suffered "serious damage", officials said.

A Honda Civic was found at the side of the road having sustained "significant damage" in the crash.

The driver of the Honda fractured his leg and was taken to hospital while his two passengers - including a three-year-old boy - were taken to hospital as a precaution.

A 41-year-old woman and two young children were travelling in the BMW and were shaken but unhurt in the accident, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A number of sheep travelling in the trailer had to be put down following the collision at about 9.20am on Wednesday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Given the nature of the crash and where the vehicles ended up, it is extraordinary that the levels of injury were not more serious."
