Gongs but no goo for Adele, Justin and Jen at Kids' Choice awards

Adele, Justin Bieber and Jennifer Lawrence won top prizes, but managed to avoid the green slime at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

British singer Adele's single Hello was named favourite song of the year, while Bieber won favourite male singer and Lawrence the favourite female actress award.

The trio were not present at the ceremony at the Forum in Los Angeles, so managed to avoid the deluge of brightly-coloured gunge, a regular feature at the show.

Country singer Blake Shelton, who hosted the ceremony, was not so lucky and was doused in goo as he concluded his duties, while girl group Fifth Harmony were covered in gunge as they collected their award for favourite music group. Actors Josh Gad and Jason Sudeikis were treated to a face-full of colourful liquid as they presented a preview of their new film Angry Birds.

Actor John Stamos also had a bucket of slime poured over his head as he sat in the audience.

Adam Sandler was cheered on by his children as he collected the award for favourite animated movie for Hotel Transylvania 2 and dedicated it to "the greatest brother anybody could have".

Star Wars: The Force Awakens won the favourite movie award, while The Thundermans was named favourite TV show.

Inside Out star Amy Poehler was named favourite voice from an animated movie for her performance as Joy.

Collecting her orange blimp award, she said: "I'm so happy to have been in a movie that talked about how funny our feelings can be and how OK it is to be both happy and sad at the same time."

Thanking her two sons for bringing her happiness every day, she added: "If Joy was here she would say, 'I'm so excited that I won this!'."

The Kids' Choice Awards will be shown on Nickelodeon in the UK on Sunday at 5pm.
