Two Cornwall pensioners found dead in suspected murder-suicide

Two pensioners, thought to be a couple, have been found dead in a suspected murder-suicide in a village in Cornwall.

The woman, aged 69, and 70-year-old man, were discovered inside a house in Quintrell Downs, around three miles from the seaside resort of Newquay, on Wednesday shortly after midday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they attended the property after concerns were raised about the welfare of two people living there.

Police said they are treating the woman's death as suspicious, but are not looking for anyone else in connection with their investigation.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose, from the Force Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "This investigation is at a very early stage and inquiries continue to establish the circumstances around the deaths.

"However at this time we are not looking for any other person in connection with this incident."

Police are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area as part of their investigation and a forensic examination and searches are taking place at the property.

Councillor Patrick Lambshead said he had heard police were at the scene and that the people involved were a couple but said he did not know them.

Another village resident, who did not wish to be named but said he heard about the deaths last night, said: "It surprises me to think it took place in this village."
