We Brits love our curries, fish and chips and pizza, spending a staggering £6.6 billion a year on takeaway food. But it's not always as good as it should be.

Now, online food ordering service Hungry House, has revealed what it says are the ten best takeaway restaurants in Britain, and plans to use the two winners in a national advertising campaign.

Based on its consistent five-star ratings, rave reviews and the site's highest return rate over the last 12 months, London's Ambience claims top spot. A family-run restaurant serving Turkish-style kebabs in Wimbledon, it offers traditional family recipes.

"We've worked hard to meet the requirements of Top Takeaways and we're ecstatic to be named the UK's number one for 2016," says manager Tanser Ozdemir. "To win this level of exposure for our restaurant is something we can only dream of, and we can't wait to welcome more people down."

Leeds takeaway Thai Sabai takes second place, thanks to recipes brought over directly from Southeast Asia by head chef Jury. Meanwhile, Cafe Zecchino in Glasgow comes third place, Glaswegians consistently coming back for more of its pizza and fish.

To choose the winners, Hungry House used an algorithm that analysed data from 11,000 restaurants and millions of customer reviews, including restaurant popularity, star ratings, return rates and hygiene standards.

The two 'Top Takeaways' will feature in a new TV advertising campaign.

"We love to celebrate local restaurants who really have a passion for serving top quality takeaway food, and who might not get the attention or exposure they deserve," says Hungry House CEO Alice Mrongovius.

"Sharing these great local finds not only helps to promote the restaurants, but also ensures customers have the best possible food ordering experience on Hungry House."

If your local takeaway isn't on the list, you can still check out reviews online. And you can always look up food hygiene ratings on the Food Standards Agency website: it won't tell you anything about the quality of the food, but at least you'll know it's safe to eat.
