It's always a pleasure to be able to treat your Mum on Mothers' Day, and it's even more of a pleasure when you can do it for nothing. This year several restaurant chains have been doing their bit to make it easier and cheaper to show your mum how much you appreciate her.

Toby Carvery free pudding
You can download a voucher, and if you eat a main meal on Saturday or Sunday after 6pm you can get pudding for free (for the mum in your party and up to three others). She can choose from chocolate fudge cake, carrot cake, apple crumble, dairy ice cream or Lemon Frost Sundae. Alternatively, the chain has developed the 'Mother of all puddings', which is choux pastry profiterole buns, with an Irish cream liqueur-flavour filling, drizzled with Belgian chocolate sauce and topped with honeycomb sprinkles.

Crown Carvery free pudding
The same deal is available from Crown Carveries - although you don't need a voucher. As Moneysavingexpert.com points out, you can use this in conjunction with the 'kids eat free' offer, so if mum was to take one child out, she could get a meal and pudding for herself, and a meal for the child for as little as £7.59.

Free prosecco
A number of chains are offering a free glass of prosecco for mum on Sunday. Cafe Rouge and Giraffe are both offering a glass with every main meal for mum on Sunday (no voucher necessary). Prezzo is offering the same deal - although it has already started, so you don't have to wait for Sunday. Again you don't need a voucher, but if you want to eat at a popular time, it might be worth booking in advance.

Strada free prosecco and pudding
There are two freebies available at Strada: a free glass of prosecco and a free pudding - worth a combined total of up to £9.40. To qualify you just need to buy a main meal (from £7.95), but with a deal this good it might be worth booking in advance.

Free bottle of wine
Frankie and Benny's is being even more generous - offering a free bottle of house wine when you order at least one main meal on Sunday. If you're not a big wine fan you can get a free box of Milk Tray instead (and in Scotland only the chocolates are available). You don't need a voucher, but the freebie might make this a popular choice for Mother's Day, so it may be worth booking in advance.

Harvester meal for mums
Harvester is doing a deal whereby mums eat free after 6.30pm on Mother's Day. You can only have one mum per group, someone else in the group must order a main meal, and the sharing platters are excluded. You also need to download a voucher, and make a booking, but it may be worth it if you get a free steak.

Bizarre alternative!
If you can't be with your mum this Mother's Day, magic freebies has set up one of the weirdest freebies around this year. It is offering free hug-grams. You just visit the website, select your favourite hugger (they offer men and women), and email freehugs@magicfreebiesuk.co.uk with a short story on why your mum especially deserves the 'hug-a-gram' service. With huggers in limited supply, the short story will be integral to who receives the service.
