Homestay websites including Airbnb and TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals are growing in popularity, mostly due to their offerings being more affordable than hotels. But now luxury travellers are opening up their homes for tourists to rent and even celebrities are getting in on the action.

American illusionist David Copperfield has a 150-acre private island in the Bahamas and offers an entire resort-like experience at Musha Cay. Private shows and chefs are included in the exclusive spot where just you and 25 friends are allowed to visit it a time.

Bruce Wallin, Editorial Director for Robb Report, says he rents the place for $57,000 per night.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, Mick Jagger owns two Mustique villas with Japanese-style interiors, a beachfront location and lush gardens with palm trees. Paul McCartney and the British Royal Family have reportedly stayed at the holiday home. It costs around $22,000 to rent the estate per week.

In Tuscany, you can sip wine at Sting's villa Il Palagio. The nine-bedroom villa is owned and often lived in by the singer and his wife. It is also surrounded by his organic vineyard and olive groves. The price for a stay is available upon request.
