One in three fear losing their job, new survey finds

A third of workers fear losing their jobs and even more feel anxious about suffering a pay cut, a study has shown.

The scale of insecurity was revealed in a survey of almost 3,000 adults which also found that one in three believed they would have less say in how they did their jobs.

One in four of those questioned said their jobs would be changed to work needing less skill, said the report by Duncan Gallie, at the University of Oxford.

Workers in the public sector were more likely to fear losing their job or have pay and conditions reduced.

Employees over 35 were more worried about losing their jobs, said the paper, published in Work, Employment and Society journal, which is run by the British Sociological Association.
