Weird fish with legs caught by fishermen in Thailand (video)

Two fishermen in Thailand caught a bizarre-looking fish which appeared to have legs.

The men, who were fishing in a river, uploaded a video of the fish to LiveLeak which prompted viewers to guess that is a type of batfish.

Deep-bodied batfish live in tropical and temperate seas, and have flattened bodied that are round or almost triangular when viewed from above.

They usually walk on their limbs and are known to be poor swimmers.

There are around 60 different species of batfish. In the Caribbean, a widespread shortnose batfish was recently spotted off one of the Grenadine Islands.

Locals were frightened when they first spotted the "mini-monster" until it was identified.

Fisherman Hope McLawrence told the Grenada Informer that he was shocked when he pulled the marine creature in his net.

And earlier this month, a strange devil-like deepwater fish was pulled off the coast of Victoria in Australia.

The Endo's Goosefish, also known by some as 'monkfish,' is a deepwater member of the anglerfish family of fishes.

It grows to 38cm and can be found around the south-eastern and western margins of Australia's continental shelf in waters ranging from 275 to 500m deep, the South East Trawl Fishing Industry Association said.

Following the find, the association said: "Like all anglerfishes, Endo's Goosefish uses a specially adapted dorsal fin ray (known as an esca by scientists) as a fishing rod to lure smaller, inquisitive prey near to its gruesome mouth. You can guess what happens next."
