Hilarious Mother's Day cards: just the right side of offensive

This week, one particular Mother's Day card has hit the headlines. For some reason a card seller in Glasgow was selling a card with the message 'MILF - My Mummy is Hot". The phrase, made famous in the American Pie films (pictured), stands for doing something unmentionable with someone's mum, and couldn't be less appropriate for sending to your own mother.

There are actually a surprising number of cards referring to MILFs available to celebrate Mother's Day, which we can only hope are designed for husbands and partners to give to the mother of their children.

Fortunately, you don't have to err on the side of hugely offensive in order to give your mum a funny card for Mother's Day. There are a host of hilarious cards that stay just the right side of offensive.

We have tracked down ten of the best.

Of course, there will be those who argue that this is a crass commercialised event, cynically designed in order to sell cards and gifts.

They have a point.

However, most kids have an enormous amount to thank their mother for. A recent survey by Ocean Finance found that the average mum does around £12,000 worth of childcare, almost £9,000 of cooking, over £6,000 of therapy - and the same amount of housekeeping each year. In total they calculate the value of the jobs mums do around the house at around £50,000 - quite aside from their paid work.

They didn't even try to put a value on the hours of worry, love, care and planning mums put into their kids.

Unsurprisingly, most children don't realise the effort involved, and don't have the time or inclination to say thanks for things they quite rightly take for granted.

So perhaps it makes sense to put a date in the diary to appreciate what we owe our mums.

Just maybe steer clear of the word 'MILF' while you're doing it.
