Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall to wed

Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall have announced their engagement.

The media mogul, 84, and the 59-year-old model placed an advert in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of the Times newspaper, which is owned by Mr Murdoch's News Corporation.

The pair reportedly begun their relationship in the summer of 2015 and got engaged at the weekend, during which they attended the Golden Globe awards ceremony.

The notice read: "Mr Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement."

A spokesman for the Murdoch family told the paper: "They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future."

Australian Mr Murdoch has wed three times before, while it will be US-born Miss Hall's first official marriage, although she had a long-term relationship with Sir Mick Jagger.

The pair were first spotted together in public at the Rugby World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand in October.

Mr Murdoch was previously married to Wendi Deng, mother to two of his children, but they split in June 2013.

He reportedly paid out 1.7bn dollars (£1.08 billion) in a divorce settlement to his second wife Anna Murdoch, while his first wife was Patricia Booker.

Meanwhile, Miss Hall, one of four daughters, moved to Paris to pursue her modelling career aged just 16.

She then famously met The Rolling Stones' frontman, and the couple wed in 1990 in Bali, but their marriage was later disputed since it was not properly conducted, and was subsequently shown to be invalid.

The pair had four children together, but parted after 23 years.

Mr Murdoch and Miss Hall follow a host of stars in using the Times' register section to announce their nuptials.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter put a notice in the paper in November 2014 and were married three months later.

Other celebrities to have revealed their engagements on the newspaper's Births, Marriages and Deaths page include actor Eddie Redmayne to publicist Hannah Bagshawe, Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell to Formula One team principal Christian Horner and comedian David Mitchell to presenter Victoria Coren.
