Kate Winslet shocked to win best supporting actress at Golden Globes

Kate Winslet was visibly shocked as she was announced as the first winner at the Golden Globes.

The actress remained in her seat looking dumbfounded after she was named best supporting actress in a film for her portrayal of Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs.

She said: "I am extremely surprised and overwhelmed. I just want to start by saying what an incredible year for women in film. These categories are so crowed and crammed with incredible integrity and skill and I feel prouder than ever to be included."

The award was presented by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, who sported a furry bear costume on his head in reference to the animal from the Golden Globe-nominated film The Revenant.

Much of their introduction was bleeped in the broadcast but Hill made the packed ballroom at the Beverly Hilton laugh when he thanked The Revenant director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu saying: "I'm a two-year-old bear from the Sierran mountains and you took a chance on me."

He also drew attention to a green ribbon on his lapel, saying: "This is for honey awareness."

Maura Tierney was the surprise winner of the second award of the night for her role as Helen Soloway in The Affair in the best supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie category.
