Justin Bieber back at the top of the singles chart

Justin Bieber is back at the top of the charts - a week after losing out in the race for the Christmas number one.

Love Yourself has become the first number one single of 2016, with Sorry and What Do You Mean? at number two and number four respectively.

The Canadian pop star had been dominating the Official Singles Chart in the weeks before Christmas, but urged fans to support the NHS Choir's song A Bridge Over You for the number one festive spot.

He called on his fans to "do the right thing" and help the charity single get to the top spot, saying that "for one week it's OK not to be number one".

The choir, who were fundraising for charity, went on to win the race with a total of combined chart sales of over 127,000 copies against Bieber's 97,000.

After hearing he had been defeated, he tweeted to his 72 million followers: "Just heard the news. Amazing. That is what Christmas is all about. @Choir_NHS congrats!! Very cool"

But singles from the 21-year-old's latest album, Purpose, are back at the top, taking up three of the top five spots.

Adele has also continued her chart domination with her album 25 - now in its sixth week at the top of the album chart - while Hello has climbed back to number three in the singles chart.
