Manhunt launched after 'sickening' attack on Coventry woman

Updated

A nationwide manhunt has been launched after a "sickening" pre-Christmas attack which left a 21-year-old woman with a shattered jaw.

West Midlands Police said every force in the country had been alerted to its appeal to trace 26-year-old Liberato Galiazia, who is also known as Luca or Lib.

Galiazia, originally from Naples in Italy, is being sought by officers investigating an assault on a woman at her home in the Wood End area of Coventry.

The victim underwent an emergency operation in which two metal plates were used to stabilise two fractures.

Officers say her injuries were so severe that her wisdom teeth had to be removed to allow surgeons to repair the damage.

Detective Sergeant Joe Davenport said: "The attack happened shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday 19 December at the woman's home in Wood End.

"There had been an argument over the phone before the attacker turned up and floored the woman, breaking her jaw in a sickening attack."

As part of their inquiries detectives have released an image of Galiazia, whose last known address was in Bedworth, Warwickshire.

Anyone with information as to Galiazia's whereabouts is urged to call Det Sgt Davenport on 101. Details can also be passed to police anonymously via the Crimestoppers service on 0800 555111.
