An Easyjet flight was forced land with just one engine at Manchester Airport.

The flight from Tenerife requested a priority landing after a fault in one of the plane's two engines was detected.

The faulty engine was shut off and the plane, carrying 151 people, was met by firefighters on the runway.

The plane landed safely and there was no reported incidents of fire.

According to the Mirror, one passenger, John Sturtivant, from Salford, praised the staff and said there was a drop in altitude at one point, adding: "This was because they had to completely shut down the left engine as they had been having problems. People did start to worry. Some people were holding hands. As we landed we were met by several fire engines. The pilot and staff kept us informed and the landing was brilliant.

"The firefighters checked the plane out for any signs of fire or smoke before escorting us well away from the building where the aircraft was left. The staff were brill."

An airline statement given to the Manchester Evening News read: "Easyjet can confirm that flight EZY1902 from Tenerife South Airport to Manchester Airport on December 12 requested priority landing, as a precaution only, at Manchester due to a technical issue with one of the aircraft's engines.

"The aircraft landed safely and all passengers disembarked normally.

"The aircraft was met by emergency services in line with routine procedures. The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority. The aircraft had 151 passengers onboard.

"A technical issue with one of the aircraft's engines meant it was shut down by the captain on the approach to Manchester.

"The aircraft continued to operate with the other engine as normal and landed safely and routinely. Our pilots regularly train to fly an aircraft with one engine and at no point was the safety of the passengers compromised."
