Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson will fly the flag for the UK at the 2016 Grammy Awards.

The pair received three nominations each, which pale in comparison to US singer Kendrick Lamar, who leads this year's awards with 11 nominations.

Taylor Swift and The Weeknd earned seven nominations apiece, with Drake landing five nods.

Sheeran's emotive ballad, Thinking Out Loud, is up for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

The 24-year-old tweeted: "I wasn't expecting the Grammy noms, thank you."

Ronson's collaboration with Bruno Mars on Uptown Funk won the pair three nominations in the Best Pop Vocal, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories.

Other Brits who have secured nominations include James Bay, Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding and Lianne La Havas.

Bay, who won the 2015 Brit Awards' Critics' Choice title, faces Meghan Trainor, Tori Kelly, Courtney Barnett and Sam Hunt for the Best New Artist prize, with his debut album, Chaos And The Calm, winning a nod for Best Rock Album.

Florence Welch and her bandmates also received two nominations - their third album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, is up for Best Pop Vocal Album, while the single, Ship To Wreck, has a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Goulding's hit Love Me Like You Do, which featured on the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack, was nominated in the Best Pop Solo Performance field, as La Havas' second album, Blood, is one of the choices in the Best Urban Contemporary Album category.

The London-born folk and soul singer tweeted: "OMGGG IM NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY."

Neil Portnow, president and chief executive of The Recording Academy, said: "The diversity in the creative community is what makes music a universal language, and it's gratifying to see the vibrancy of today's artistic landscape reflected in this year's nominations. Artists are pushing boundaries in exciting ways, making it an exceptionally strong year for music."

The Grammy Awards, now in its 58th year, will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 15 2016.
