A tiger and a goat might seem like an unlikely pairing for a friendship, but amazingly it has happened at a Russiansafari park in the Primorsky region.

Amur the tiger usually eats live goats and rabbits twice a week - but when Timur the goat was put into his enclosure as his next meal, something different happened.

It appears that Timur wasn't afraid of the big cat, and instead of being eaten, the two have become firm friends, as the footage shows.

Timur even sleeps inside a covered area in the enclosure while Amur lies on the roof, protecting his new pal.

It's also been reported that the tiger hisses at any of the safari park workers when they try to get too close to his unlikely best friend.

But not everyone is happy about this unusual pairing staying friends.

Activists have called for the animals to be separated before something potentially life-threatening happens to the goat, RT reports.

One activist wrote: "Please, house the goat separately and let it live in your safari park. Let his story be not only about the compassion the tiger showed towards the brave goat, but about people showing humanism too,"

Another said: "Their friendship is highly unusual and phenomenal. Park staff, director, have you got a mite of compassion towards Timur? Can it be placed separately? The goat is sensational! Save it!"

The zookeepers have reported that Amur clearly decided not to view the goat as prey and instead they 'walk together like a pair of good friends'.
