A man has admitted murdering his nine-year-old grandson by drowning him in the bath.

Stewart Greene, 65, of Danes Court, Grimoldby, Lincolnshire, was on trial at Lincoln Crown Court accused of killing Alex Robinson at the boy's home two days before Christmas.

He had denied the charge but changed his plea on Thursday morning. He will be sentenced later.

The court had heard that Mr Greene was looking after the youngster while his mother went out to buy a turkey.

Prosecuting, Michael Evans QC told the court Greene was left alone with Alex on the morning of December 23 last year.

He said the youngster, who was on the autistic spectrum, had been playing on his Xbox when his mother, Joanne Greene, left to go to Tesco.

Mr Evans said Ms Greene returned to find her father sitting calmly on the settee.

According to the prosecutor, Greene told his daughter: "I've drowned Alex in the bath."
