A TripAdvisor reviewer was left rather disillusioned after visiting a hotel by Lake Windermere last week.

The user, Paul S, was staying in the Beech Hill Hotel and was apparently disappointed to learn that the famous lake isn't illuminated at night.

What's more, Paul was equally disappointed to find that there was a cloud of fog shrouding the lake in the morning when he awoke.

The full review, which was entitled 'Beech HIll Hotel Lake View?', reads as follows:

"My first ever visit to Windermere and on arrival at the BH Hotel at 8pm, I was so disappointed to have found the lake to be in total darkness. We requested a room with Lakeside view and might have well have been looking into a black void. I would have thought a Lake as prominent as Windermere would have been illuminated and floodlights during the winter months. The following morning was no better as the lake was shrouded in fog. So from my experience what a waste of a trip. The BH Hotel was ok, but I feel they should refrain from advertising a prominent Parkside position, when you can't even see the lake. I would suggest the whole BY Hotel is moved closer to the lake, or the local council consider flood lighting the whole lake to avoid this disappointment, and follow Blackpools example."

Paul S went on to give the location and one bubble rating, rooms a four bubble rating and service a two bubble rating.

Jonathen Allen, the hotel's general manager, responded to the bizarre review with comments including: "I almost find myself lost for words as I read your "review" if I'm honest. These are some of the strangest comments I've read on Trip Advisor, in fact it shows that people can pretty much post whatever they like and it appears on here regardless of how little sense it makes!"

The review seems to have been removed since it garnered the attention of the public as it can no longer be seen on the hotel's TripAdvisor page online.

The Beech Hill Hotel currently has a four bubble overall rating on TripAdvisor with other recent visitors leaving positive reviews including: "From the lake view room to the bar lounge and the restaurant we thought the service was very good" and "The hotel was beautiful and had a wonderful atmosphere. The view was spectacular and well worth the price."
