Gordon Ramsay reportedly wants to knock down the new holiday home he bought in Cornwall to build a bigger and better version of the £4.4 million property.

The TV chef plans to fit a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, as well as a smaller 'prep kitchen' and a snug, TV room and study, the Daily Mail reports.

There will also be a three-bedroom boathouse in the grounds, along with a swimming pool, wine cellar and en-suites for the bedrooms.

In July, the Cornish Guardian reported that the 49-year-old had made the most expensive house purchase in Cornwall this year, buying the five-bedroom cottage with two bathrooms, two reception rooms and 1.3 acres of gardens.

Estate agents described the house as having "immense potential for development".

But some locals were not pleased about their new neighbour, with one woman, 24, telling The Sun: "Gordon Ramsay buys £4.4m holiday home in Cornwall - and wants to bulldoze it to build a bigger one."

Another told a local newspaper: "£4.5million wouldn't be affordable to most people round here. It's a shame the local community is being driven out. The sort of people who move here aren't really helping the community much. It brings jobs, and it is good for tourism, but it is dead in the winter."

Local councillor Carol Mould told the Daily Mail that Ramsay's plans will be "considered in due course".
