BBC's The Apprentice teams squabble over pop-up shops

Updated

Lord Alan Sugar turns up at The Apprentice house unexpectedly this week to give the contestants a new challenge.

He ups the ante when he tasks the teams with setting up a discount shop in one of Manchester's busiest retail centres.

The respective teams must place their orders for branded goods to draw in bargain hunters before heading to wholesalers to stock up on high turnover items, including towels, scented candles, selfie sticks and sweets.

But one team's inept haggling and the other's dire calculations have Versatile and Connexus squabbling before their shutters are even up.

Taking to the streets to discover what will sell well, Lord Sugar's aide Karren Brady has to intervene when two candidates' audacious sales technique borders on fraud.

The day only gets worse when one project manager loses the plot with his squabbling squad and the other shirks his duty in the back of the store.

Lord Sugar made it clear that this task was a race to see who could buy, sell and replenish the most stock in their pop-up shops, so has one project manager's decision to leave buying more goods until two hours before closing blown his team's chances?

Back in the boardroom, sales and assets are totted up, and it becomes clear one team has been trading more insults than electrical goods.

It's time for Lord Sugar to take stock of the situation and send at least one of the candidates packing.
