Tesco Christmas shopping might not have much sparkly festive appeal, but if you shop carefully you can get some fantastic Christmas gifts, at surprising prices. We reveal some of the best - from Nativity 3 for £5 to Katy Perry perfume for £11.25 and the Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon for £55.

Clubcard Boost
At the moment, Tesco is running its regular Clubcard Boost promotion, which lets you swap Clubcard points for tokens worth twice the value - to spend in a range of departments. The deal runs right up to Christmas, so you can swap your points for tokens until 27th December - and you'll need to spend them by 30 December. You can spend them at Tesco Direct or in store - where there are 14 departments for you to spend the tokens in. They're listed here.

New DVD releases
Tesco, like many supermarkets, will discount DVDs in their first week of release. It means that by timing your purchase, you can get a new release for £10 - after which it goes up to £13. At the time of writing, for example, Nativity 3 is reduced to £10. If you combine this with Clubcard Boost, you can get a new release for just £5.

At the moment, there's also an offer on for selected new release Blu Rays - where you can buy two for £25, instead of £15 each. Again these are eligible for the Boost - which is a brilliant saving on the full price.

Offers
Tesco regularly runs offers, so it's worth checking that section of the website for details. The 3 for 2 on gift wrap, cards and decorations, is a useful place to start. However you can also save significantly on other items. At the time of writing, for example, the PS4 bundle including Call of Duty Black Ops III Special Edition is for sale at £50 off (£329). Again this can be combined with Clubcard boost, so if you have enough vouchers you can get it for £164.50.

Must-have toys
If you shop early, Tesco will still have the must-have toys for Christmas, and some of them are on special offer. It currently has an impressive Star Wars selection. The Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon, for example, is reduced from £119.97 to £109.99. It's also eligible for Boost (much of the Star Wars range is) - which means it would set you back just £55 in vouchers. Likewise the Paw Patrol Lookout Playset is reduced from £45 to £40 - and is eligible for Boost, while Frozen singalong Elsa is down from £39.99 to £34.99 (although you cannot use Boost tokens for that).

Fragrances
These are well worth exploring. Most people will have an idea what their favourite fragrance costs, so you can get a bargain and they'll never know. There are a few on offer (such as the Katy Perry Purr Eau De Parfum which is down from £45 to £22.50). Several of them are also available on Clubcard Boost, so are effectively half price. The best deal at the time of writing, however, must be the Katy Perry perfume, which once you have the discount and the Boost, will set you back £11.25 in vouchers.

Clothing
The fact that you can use Boost to halve the cost of your purchases is a great start. The traditional festive favourites of slippers, socks, hats, scarves, gloves, bags, accessories and festive jumpers can all be snapped up for half their usual price. At the time of writing, there's also a special deal offering £10 off when you spend £50 or more, £15 off £75 or more, and £25 off £100 or more. It means, technically, you could buy a tote bag with a built-in charger, suede touch screen gloves, a cashmere jumper and a 'coatigan'. The total of £114 would be £89 after the discount, and £44.50 in vouchers.
