Prince Harry has joined US first lady Michelle Obama at an American military base where they met injured veterans undergoing therapy.

Harry, Mrs Obama and Jill Biden, the wife of vice-president Joe Biden, toured Fort Belvoir in Virginia to learn about the efforts to help the sick and wounded US servicemen and women.

The Prince is making a one-day visit to the US to highlight his Invictus Games and support the rehabilitation of injured American service personnel.

At Fort Belvoir the trio joined an art therapy class helping veterans with mental injuries.

Harry sat down at a table and looked at artwork created by the veterans and later they all visited a music therapy room where wounded service personnel, their families and carers receive help, and listened to a performance by musicians playing drums and a keyboard.

The prince's upcoming Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style championship for injured military personnel from across the globe, will be staged in Orlando, Florida, in 2016.

Mrs Biden visited the UK in 2014 and saw athletes competing in the inaugural Invictus Games.

She and Mrs Obama are keen supporters of forces' families in the US and in 2011 launched Joining Forces, an initiative that called on Americans to rally round veterans and provide education and employment opportunities for them.
