Tributes have been paid to a 14-year-old boy who died when the car he was in struck a tree.

The youngster, named locally as Kane Balogun, was killed when a silver Peugeot 206 crashed on Stechford Road, Hodge Hill, Birmingham, at just after 11pm on Friday.

Kane, also known as KD, was an aspiring rapper and one of his videos on YouTube has been viewed nearly 140,000 times.

One fan described Kane as the "future of the Brum grime scene".

Taylan Ozdemir wrote: "RIP. Too young, never had a chance to reach full potential."

Gemma Simpson wrote: "RIP Kane you were so talented and young and you got took away from this earth too early."

And user SuperbLotus wrote: "RIP was the future of the Brum grime scene but now he's gone."

Meanwhile, dozens of bouquets have been attached to a tree at the accident scene with messages including "Rest in paradise Kane".

Another, from Buba, said: "Yo Kane, God wanted his Angel back and there you are. I'll always miss you."

A card, written by Kane's cousin Chloe, said: "Can't believe you're gone only 14! My beautiful crazy little cousin. Love you millions."

One resident on the street, who did not wish to be named, said it was a "tragedy".

He said: "Fourteen is far too young to die. It's upsetting, a real tragedy."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews performed advanced life support techniques on the boy but despite those best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Police have asked anyone who saw the crash to call them on 101.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, West Midlands Police said.
