Rumours about Facebook's privacy resurfaced on the social site and had been shared thousands of times, which claimed that the firm planned to charge £5.99 to keep profiles private. Panic ensued.

The hoaxers asked users to copy and paste a status to avoid paying the fee. Thankfully, Facebook quickly quashed the rumour.
