Pit bulls aren't exactly the most popular dog breed in the UK, and it seems they don't have too many fans in the USA either, where 2,000 to 3,000 are put down every day.

However, Kara Montalbano is a landlord in Rhode Island is fed up with the fatal misconceptions facing these pets.

Karen is doing her part to change the public image of pit bulls by deciding only to rent her house out to people with a pit bull.

She told the Huffington Post: "If they don't [have pit bulls], I know they won't have a problem finding another place to live, and I will wish them luck."

Montalbano originally bought her house when she realised that attempting to rent while having a pit bull as part of her family was next to impossible.

Now she's moving in with her boyfriend and wants to preserve the pit bull friendly nature of the house.

The response she has received so far has been overwhelmingly positive and Montalbano has expressed interest in taking on more rental properties to help serve families with pit bulls.

Montalbano said: "I have something that can sincerely help keep a family together, so why wouldn't I rent to a family with a pit bull?"

Adding: "To me, this should be the norm, and I don't think I'm doing anything that I wouldn't expect other dog lovers to do."
