A new bride accused of murdering her solicitor husband has made her first appearance in court.

Sharon Edwards, 42, of Parkers Wood Close, Chorley, Lancashire, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of David Edwards, 51.

No pleas were entered and the court was told the case would be heard at crown court.

Her solicitor Mr Sephton Lee told the short hearing that a bail application would be made on Friday at Preston Crown Court.

Wearing a grey T-shirt, Edwards confirmed her name and gave her address from the glassed dock where she was flanked by two dock officers.

After giving her name, she told the court: "David's not dead."

During the five minute hearing, Edwards told the deputy district judge that she understood proceedings, before saying again: "But he's not dead."

As she looked to her two family members who were sitting in the public gallery she shook her head and mouthed: "No he isn't."

Deputy District Judge Maggie McCormack said: "The charge that you face is one that I have to send to crown court."

As she was handcuffed and led away, Edwards waved and blew kisses to the man and woman in the gallery who kissed and hugged each other.

Mr Edwards, a criminal defence solicitor for 26 years, was found with a stab wound to his chest at their £300,000 four-bedroom home on Sunday evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Edwards - who had recently been made redundant from local law firm Kevills, based in Chorley, where he was a partner - had recently returned home from honeymooning with his new wife following their marriage in June.

Edwards was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on Friday August 28.
