How much do teachers make around the world?
There are pay differences all over the world but given how highly we value education, surely teachers should be earning a respectable amount across the globe?
Last year, GEMS Education Solutions conducted a study examining government spending on teaching.
The following salaries represent each country's average pay for teachers converted to pounds sterling.
In Switzerland teachers are making £43,583 on average and depending on the region, classes may be taught in German, French, Italian or Romansh.
The Netherlands also rank highly with an average salary of £36,649 while their neighbours, Belgium aren't far behind, earning around £32,596.
In Japan, teachers are the highest paid civil servants, making around £29,087 a year while educators 'down under' are reported to rake in £27,865 a year, with 69% of teachers in Australia being women.
Our friends across the pond in the USA make £26,256, and teachers here in our very own country make £25,908 on average.
In Portugal educators are making £21,905 while in Sweden they earn an average of £20,018 and free education is available to every child starting age six
Greece and Israel are among the lower earners making £16,307 and £12,381 respectively.
Heading to South America, we can see that teachers in Brazil are reported to make an average of £9,398 each year.
Shockingly, in Indonesia teachers are making an average of just £1,792 and in 2013 volunteer teachers were given army survival training before being sent to remote and poverty stricken schools.
