Trafalgar Square fingers showcase Mexican talent

Two giant fingers have been installed in Trafalgar Square as part of four exhibitions taking place across the capital.

The 25-ton contemporary sculpture, made from cast bronze coated in white paint, is called "You" by Mexican artist Jose Rivelino.

Each piece in the Contemporary Mexican Sculpture: The Vision of Four Artists series will be made in volcanic stone, bronze or resin, and use a major landmark as a backdrop.

"You" appears on King Charles Island in Trafalgar Square and shows two index fingers, equal in weight, colour and size, point towards each other.

Rivelino said it was about "the highly significant issue of equality between human beings".

Yvonne Domenge, Jorge Yazpik and Paloma Torres are the other artists who are to feature in the exhibitions which are helping to celebrate Dual Year of UK and Mexico 2015.

Diego Gomez Pickering, Mexican Ambassador to the UK, said: "This wonderful project will not only showcase Mexico's rich cultural heritage here in the United Kingdom, but it will also bring together diverse audiences in the celebration of the Dual Year between our two nations."
