Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce destroyed in workshop arson attack

Updated

A high-powered supercar and a luxury Rolls-Royce have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack on a workshop.

Pictures of the smoke-blackened wreckage of what was once a metallic orange Lamborghini and what appeared to be a silver Rolls-Royce Phantom recorded the destruction.

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service, which posted the images on social media, said a joint fire and police investigation was now under way after the blaze in Birmingham overnight.

Officers from West Midlands Police said they had launched an arson inquiry after being called to the scene in Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth, by the fire brigade.

A force spokesman said: "It's being treated as arson and police investigation has been launched."

The fire service said it got a 999 call at 12.36am last night to the fire at the commercial unit.

At its height there were eight crews using breathing gear and water jets to fight the fire, which was eventually brought under control shortly before 3am.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Posting pictures of the badly damaged cars on Twitter, crews from the city's Highgate station said: "Good stop. Couldn't save the £330,000 Lamborghini or the Rolls though!".
