Pranksters stage fake terror attack at hotel in Turkey
British tourists have told of the terrifying moment staff at a hotel in Turkey staged a mock terror attack as part of a Hollywood-themed poolside show.
Staff armed with fake guns and liquid marked 'fuel' took part in the poolside show at luxury hotel Grand Yazici Mares in Icmeler, just six weeks after the Tunisian beach massacre which saw 38 holidaymakers killed.
Electrician Jason Phythian, from Greater Manchester, told The Sun he was sunbathing around the pool when he saw a group of men wearing Middle Eastern clothing and carrying fake guns.
The 43-year-old said: "One ran up to me with a bucket with 'Fuel' written on the side. He threw it over me and got out a cigarette lighter. I jumped up, not knowing what on Earth was going on. It was disgusting to try and make light of Tunisia in that way."
Jason added that he was "so relieved" when he discovered it was the hotel's entertainment.
He later complained to the hotel manager and his wife Dawn Sutton wrote about the incident on Tripadvisor.
She said: "So shocked to see them dressed up. One was dressed in army pants walking round with a gun and pointing it at people.
"Then there were two walking about as Arabs, one with a rifle and one with a container with 'Fuel' written on — it was only water."
Jet2holidays, which organised Jason's family holiday at the resort, apologised.
According to TravelMole, a Jet2holidays spokesperson said: "We are sorry to hear about the distress experienced by the Sutton family and on hearing this we immediately spoke to the hotel management.
"They have assured us it was never their intention to cause any offense or upset with their entertainment programme. This was a Hollywood themed poolside show, which included the characters Rambo and Superman, and it is always well received by the hotel's residents.
"The hotel management now understands that some of the costumes may have caused offense and they will no longer use these in their shows."
