Bulgaria sea tragedy Briton's body found

The body of a British teacher who disappeared while swimming in Bulgaria has been found, the Foreign Office has said.

Ethan McKen, a 24-year-old teacher from Nottingham, was reported missing yesterday after a morning swim shortly after arriving at the Sunny Beach resort.

The BBC said family members had told them Mr McKen was hit by a wave, and had been unable to reach the shore.

He had been travelling with a group of five friends, tour operator Thomas Cook said.

One other member of the group also entered the sea, but returned safely and was said to be recovering in a local medical centre.

A Foreign Office Spokeswoman said: "Sadly we can confirm the death of a British national in Bulgaria. We are providing consular support to the family at this difficult time."

A spokesman for Club 18-30, which is run by Thomas Cook, said: "We have today been advised that the FCO have confirmed the death of a British national in Bulgaria.

"Out of respect for the family, we are not at liberty to share any specific details until a formal identification process has been completed.

"Club 18-30 reps in the resort are offering every support to the members of the party who travelled to Sunny Beach. C

"Club 18-30's parent company, Thomas Cook, is also liaising directly with the family in the UK, and are arranging for relatives to travel to Bulgaria as soon as possible.

"We remain committed to offering friends and family every assistance at what must be a truly difficult time."

Nottinghamshire-based Bulwell FC, of which Mr McKen was a member, wrote on Facebook: "Thoughts are with the family of Bulls defender Ethan McKen who has tragically been swept out to sea whilst holidaying in Bulgaria. RIP Ethan."
