Man jailed for catapult attack in pub toilet

A man has been jailed after shooting a ball bearing from a catapult into the neck of a fellow drinker in a pub toilet.

The victim initially thought he had been struck a glancing blow and did not realise he had actually been shot after the attack at the Cross Keys pub in Bedford last May.

But after feeling unwell for a few days, the victim went to the doctors where a large ball bearing was found lodged in his neck.

Yesterday, John Jack Davis, 60, of Sandy, Bedfordshire, was jailed for six years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent at St Albans Crown Court, Bedfordshire Police said.

Detective Constable Amanda Durrant from the force said: "This attack caused a serious injury to the victim - and one which could have been a lot worse had he not sought medical treatment when he did.

"It might be legal to own a catapult, but it's certainly not legal or acceptable to use it to cause physical harm."
