Home to some of the world's most recognisable landmarks, Italy was once home to the ancient Roman population.

But when visiting a popular holiday spot like Italy it can be tricky to know which places you should have on your list.
We've teamed up with Tripadvisor and their Traveller's Choice Awards to bring you the top 10 places to visit in Italy this year.
Hitting the top spot for 2015 is St. Peter's Basilica, perhaps better known as the Vatican. The largest Basilica of Christianity in the world is intricately decorated with works from iconic artists including Rafael and Michelangelo.
Also making the top 10 is Rome's Trevi Fountain where the longstanding tradition of throwing coins could guarantee you a safe return to Rome, love or even marriage.
The ancient city of Pompeii also features. The site is considered to be the strongest proof of Roman civilisation. The city may have fallen victim to the scorching lava of Mount Vesuvius but the volcanic ash preserved it, leaving a priceless archaeological site.
