Those heading to the 'White Isle' this summer might be in for a bit of a shock when they board their plane.

Ryanair has implemented a ban on passengers bringing duty-free alcohol on board flights to Ibiza.

According to the BBC, the budget airline has been sending passengers emails to make them aware of the new regulations.

The email states: "Customers will not be allowed to carry alcohol on board and all cabin baggage will be searched at boarding gates.

"Any alcohol purchased in airport shops or elsewhere must be packed carefully in a suitable item of cabin baggage, which will be tagged at the gate and then placed in the aircraft hold free of charge."

You can currently flight to the party island from the following UK airports: London Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, East Midlands, Glasgow and Leeds.

Speaking to Metro, a Ryanair spokesman said: "The comfort and safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority."

Passengers will be given the option of storing the alcohol in the hold area of the plane.

Earlier in the week, we told of a flight from Glasgow to Ibiza that got out of hand when a group of passengers starting singing and playing loud music.

Services between the Scottish city and Ibiza are notoriously rowdy and in April this year tourists on Ryanair flights from Glasgow Prestwick airport to Ibiza were told they would no longer be able to take alcohol on flights, which has potentially spurred on the nationwide ban.
