Amusement Park Ride Shut Down After Bungee Cable Snaps

The terrifying moment a bungee rope snapped on a ride in America just moments before it was due to launch had been captured on camera.

Carrie Sueker and 13-year-old Trevor Larson were sat waiting to be launched into the air on ride The Catapult at Wisconsin Dells' Mt. Olympus Theme Park and Resort when the cord snapped and crashed into the concrete.

"There was like a 4-inch deep hole," Trevor told WISN.

The video, filmed by Trevor's father Dru Larson, shows the moment the cord tears through the concrete next to the ride after snapping.

Trevor added: "It was extremely loud. I didn't really know what was happening. It was a split second. That's how fast it came down."

Speaking to NBC15, Dru said: "If they would have went up in the air, that would have killed them."

The ride's owner claims the rope snapped four years ago but this was the first time the cable and cord had disconnected.

WTNH reports that the ride will now be removed from the theme park.

In a statement, the park said: "After further review, Mt. Olympus has required Casco Inc., the owner/operator of the Catapult ride, to permanently cease operation of the ride and remove the ride from Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park."
