Amber Peat: Body found in missing girl hunt

Police searching for a missing 13-year-old girl have found a body, they said.

Amber Peat had not been seen since she left the family home in Bosworth Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, at around 5.30pm on Saturday after a row with her family.

A police spokesman said: "Amber's family has been informed and we ask that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

"Officers are at the scene in Mansfield and inquiries are on-going. No formal identification has yet taken place."

Emotional plea

Police thanked all who had helped in the search, particularly the Mansfield community.

Earlier, Amber's parents issued an emotional plea for her to return.

Her mother and stepfather broke down in tears as they spoke at a police conference, saying her disappearance was out of character.

Kelly and Danny Peat said she walked out after refusing to clean a cool box used to store food on a recent holiday.

Ms Peat said: "If you're watching this or anybody knows where she is, just send her home please."

Mr Peat added: "Just come home. We just want you home."

Superintendent Matt McFarlane, of Nottinghamshire Police, explained that there had been "nothing like this before" with Amber.

"In the past, she's a young girl, she's been out of the house perhaps for a few hours but never anything like this. This is totally out of character," he said.

"We are seriously concerned about her whereabouts.

"The request we make is, Amber, if you hear this, please come home."

Local search

Officers were focusing their search within a one-kilometre radius of the family home and believed there was a good chance Amber had not gone further afield.

The Peats had returned from a holiday in Cornwall on Friday.

Mr Peat said: "We had just all had a brilliant holiday. It's just not right.

"She had a fantastic time, never stopped laughing with all of us together."

He added: "We told her to clean a cool box out that we had had sandwiches in for the journey home.

"It was a chore basically and I'm sure all teenagers are the same, she didn't want to do a chore. That was the last conversation."

Ms Peat said: "We were in the living room and I heard the front door slam."

She went on: "I heard the door and when I went out I couldn't see her anywhere. She had just gone."

She said Amber was not in contact with her natural father, who lives in Scotland.

Mr Peat praised the efforts of local people in trying to find Amber and said more than 300 people were searching for her yesterday.
