The carelessness of a speeding driver very nearly caused a horrific accident last Sunday.

Michael Preedy captured the incident on video as he drove behind his partner, Susan Howen, while she was walking with her horse Cally.

The couple were travelling down a peaceful B road Hertfordshire road when a silver Honda Civic came haring round the bend to overtake Michael.

It's not clear whether or not the driver realised Susan was in front of the car with Cally but shortly before the Honda races past Susan steps out into the road, presumably to warn the dangerous driver of the horse's presence.

The danger factor was even higher given that a Ford Focus was travelling in the other direction as the Honda swerves from one side of the road to the other to overtake.

According to the Metro, the couple were trying to get the horse used to the road which is why they were out that day.

Michael even had a flashing sign on the back of his car warning that horses may be present.

Michael said: "I had to close my eyes for a split second as he went past because I was sure he was going to hit someone.

"He must have been going at 60mph. It was just so frightening.

"We are very lucky that he didn't hit the car or hit Susan and Cally and end up killing someone."

He also added that they had reported the incident to the police but "because it was a near miss we had to fill in forms and they said they would investigate."

According to the Telegraph, Michael captured the footage on his dashcam, which is an on-board camera that continually records while the car is moving.

Advice says that you should always slow down when approaching a horse and drive slowly around, allowing them plenty of room.

It's also suggested that no loud noises should be sounded such as your car horn or engine revs.
