A Southeastern train passenger who was locked in a toilet while travelling from London Blackfriars to Orpington was forced to contact the rail company on Twitter for help.

Steven Staples, 38, took the train on Sunday and became trapped in the cubicle.

The Evening Standard reports that he was ignored by other passengers and tried to release the lock with his credit card but could not release the lock.

He then took to Twitter for help.

Writing to Southeastern, the company director said: "I'm stuck in a toilet - just pulling to Elephant and Castle, please help. Going to Orpington. Boarded at Blackfriars - next stop is Herne Hill."

When Southeastern replied that it was sending someone to help free him, Steven said: "Ok thanks. Please try and be quick, it's not a great smell!"

According to the Daily Telegraph, the train driver rushed to free Mr Staples but a young girl beat them to it and pulled the door open.

Staples was freed after the 15-minute ordeal.

Last year, a plane passenger on a Cathay Pacific flight from New Jersey to Hong Kong got his finger caught in the toilet bin.

The 32-year-old American man was forced to spend part of the 15-hour flight standing alone in the plane toilet.

He got his finger stuck more than an hour before landing at Chek Lap Kok Airport and flight attendants had no other option but to leave him standing in the bathroom during landing.

"An initial investigation showed that he threw trash into a rubbish bin inside the toilet, but his middle finger was accidentally stuck in the bin," a police officer said.

When the plane landed in Hong Kong, the pilot called police for help with the situation. Firemen were called on board but before they arrived the passenger managed to free himself.
