KitKat wrappers to change in brands biggest ever redesign

One of the UK's most iconic chocolate wrappers is soon to change the way it looks.

KitKat has announced it will be launching a series of limited edition wrappers that will showcase 72 different 'breaks' in celebration of their 80th anniversary.

Google have teamed up with Nestlé to create over 100 million specially designed wrappers, reports the Irish Mirror.

As many as 600,000 of these KitKat packets will feature the slogan 'YouTube break' instead of the original KitKat logo as part of the redesign.

Other types of 'breaks' that will be available include 'me time break' and 'sporty break', according to Media Week.


The campaign comes as Google have named their new Android operating system 4.4 update after the popular chocolate bar.

As part of the collaboration, users are encouraged to try searching 'KitKat YouTube my break' using the voice search feature on their phones to bring up trending videos.


The confectionary brand has also put a £10 million campaign into action this year which involved the phrase '#mybreak' being etched into 22 million chocolate bars, The Drum reports.

In 2014 Nestlé announced that train passengers in northern Japan would be able to use their KitKat wrappers as train tickets in an attempt to improve tourism in an area that was badly hit by the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

Travelers on the Sanriku Railway network could buy special packages of KitKats that cost less than the price of a standard rail ticket, they could then use the wrappers from these boxes in exchange for transport.

The confectionary company also decorated the trains with pink and white cherry blossom paintings as it represents hope in Japanese culture.
