Manchester Airport and the Home Office have launched an investigation after a video emerged appearing to show passengers enter the UK without having their passports checked.

According to the BBC, the incident happened at Manchester Airport when a Ryanair flight from Madrid arrived.

Clinton Lakin from Stoke-on-Trent sent BBC News video footage and said: "This is the UK border and there's nobody at Passport Control at Manchester Airport.

"A planeload of people have just arrived and come straight through and we are going to baggage reclaim.

"Nobody has checked our passports."

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Mr Lakin said: "My concern is we still have the Ebola crisis in Africa and any one of those people who were coming in via Madrid could have been travelling from places where potentially Ebola could have been passed on."

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: "It is the responsibility of an airline's handling agent to notify UK Border Force about arrivals from outside of the UK."

According to Manchester Evening News, Ryanair blamed a failure in Manchester Airport's computer systems.

A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "There appears to have been a malfunction in the airport's system, which caused incorrect flight information to be published, and subsequently resulted in this issue at border control.

"We have asked Manchester Airport to look into this matter and ensure it does not recur."
