Northumberland named best UK family holiday destination for 2015

Northumberland has been voted the best UK family holiday destination by the users of Mumsnet UK.

The area has been lauded as the holiday hotspot for 2015 above other beautiful regions like Cornwall, Dorset and Yorkshire.

The website states: "Northumberland is the hot ticket for 2015.

"The region has something for everyone, and gets rave reviews for its beautiful clean beaches."

According to the Morpeth Herald, one user said: "The Northumberland coast wins for us every time.

"If you stay in Seahouses you have all the traditional seaside stuff on the doorstep, but we tend to go for a holiday cottage in one of the pretty villages dotted around."

Speaking to the Northumberland Gazette, Northumberland Tourism General Manager Jude Leitch said: "We think Northumberland is a fabulous place for family holidays with plenty of fascinating historical sites and wild landscapes to enjoy. It is great to see someone like Mumsnet agree."

Visit Northumberland explains why it's so great, and what you could be getting up to, writing on its website: "Stretching from the Scottish Borders to Hadrian's Wall, with not just one, but two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a National Park, come to Northumberland and you could be walking along vast expanses of dune-fringed beaches, climbing our dramatic hills and taking in glorious sweeps of valleys or just revelling in our wide-open spaces.

"You could be discovering the resilient and independent spirit of Northumberland, with its turbulent, historic past. Exploring our many dramatic castles; catapulted back 2,000 years along Hadrian's Wall or marvelling at the birthplace of the 8th-Century Lindisfarne Gospels on Holy Island.

"You could be active and take to the waves kite surfing, soar through the skies on a treetop adventure, or hotfooting it along some of the UK's most legendary walking routes.

"Or you could just take time to relax. Star gaze under the darkest skies in England, breathe in the fragrance of some of Britain's greatest gardens or indulge in a spot of retail therapy at our traditional market towns and villages before lingering over memorable meals with a fusion of local fare."
